On the day of Pentecost (50 days after Passover), the disciples were praying in one place.  Suddenly the Holy Spirit came upon them all, just as Jesus had promised.  They began to speak in new tongues.  The crowds in Jerusalem, which had come from all over the Roman empire, were amazed when they heard this, for each heard some of the disciples speaking in their own language.
